Smaller than the No. 4, the No. 3 functions as a smoothing plane for smaller surfaces, as well as performing some of the same tasks as a block plane, with the rear tote making extended use more comfortable.

Clifton Bench Planes are made in Sheffield, UK, from the finest materials. The frog and frog seating in the body of these planes are based on the Bedrock design, meaning the seating pad in the body is full face, fully machined to mate with an equivalent full face, with a fully machined underside of the frog. This ensures absolute stability of the frog, providing a firm and solid base for the cutting iron. The Bedrock design is probably the most rigid and effective clamping mechanism of any bench plane available.
